Painting has recently become one of my favorite hobbies, something I never expected to enjoy so much.

There are many types of brushes you could draw, but for this tutorial, we’ll focus on two popular styles: a round brush and a flat-headed brush.

Drawing a paint brush is actually quite straightforward. You mainly need to sketch three parts: the handle, the ferrule (the metal piece that holds the bristles), and the bristles themselves.

Sounds simple, right? Let’s get started.

Steps to Draw a Paint Brush

Step 1:
Since we’re creating two different brushes, repeat this step twice. Start by drawing two horizontal lines, then connect them on the left side with a gentle curve. This will form the start of your brush handles.

Step 2:
Next, on the right end, draw a rectangle and close it with a curved line for the round brush. For the flat-headed brush, angle the lines outward slightly as you close off the top. This forms the ferrule and sets the foundation for the bristles.

Step 3:
Now for the bristles: For the round brush, draw two curved lines fanning outward, making the bottom line a bit longer for a natural curve. Add lines within the bristles to show texture.

For the flat brush, draw two angled lines meeting at a curved tip. You can fill in with straight lines for bristle details, or leave it plain if you prefer a minimalist look.

Finally, you can add color to your brushes or leave them as sketches—it depends on how you want to use your drawing.
